Since the most recent android update, I am not able to edit the name of tasks in android as I normally would. If you try to move the cursor to the middle/start of the task name and make additions, the cursor instead immediately jumps to the end of the title and starts writing there instead.

Sorry, this is a bit hard to explain in words, but simply open the android app and try editing the name of a pre-existing task - try adding a new word in the middle of the task, and you'll see what I mean.
