Hi everyone, Akiflow’s MCP is now available, and we’re revisiting the needs behind this API request.
MCP lets you connect AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT to Akiflow. You can ask them to create and update tasks and subtasks, plan your work, check your connected calendars, and use your Meeting Assistant transcripts.
For example, try asking: “Show my overdue tasks and help me plan them for this week.”
If you haven’t tried it yet, we’d love you to give it a go. Our Akiflow MCP setup guide explains how to connect your AI assistant and includes more examples.
What were you hoping to build or automate with an API? Does MCP cover that fully, partly, or not at all? Please share what is still missing and which tools you want to connect.
If MCP isn’t a fit, or you no longer need an API, we’d love to understand why too.
Thanks!

For me the interactive part would be nice via MCP. Trying to set this up in the near future.
API would be even more useful I think, because I can then build custom n8n workflows rather easily, than having to use the MCP, which might not be deterministic in some cases

Hi Florian, what’s the first n8n workflow you’d build with Akiflow? What would trigger it, and what should it do in Akiflow or elsewhere?

Create Tasks from emails, since missing SOC/ISO, because our admins have concerns about this.
Then I would create tasks in Akiflow from some triggers, like Email Topics.
Re-Open Tasks automatically on certain triggers.
Modiy task description (hopefully comments in the future), when a third party task is updated (New reply, …)

Some companies don’t allow installation of 3rd party plugins. An API would allow me to create my own sync mechanism between the company calendar API and Akiflow.
Since the sync is sth deterministic, using the MCP for this is overkill.
Tadej J.
Team•
Sep 11
Hi Victor, understood. Would your sync bring company events into Akiflow only, or would changes made in Akiflow also need to update your company calendar?
Victor
•
Sep 11
Bringing events in will cover most of my needs. Optionally, being able to send events will probably translate to me being able to handle everything calendar related just from the Akiflow app.
Tadej J.
Team•
Sep 21
Hi Victor, thanks, that helps. You also mentioned syncing out-of-office blocks in the survey. Could you walk me through the last calendar change you had to copy manually: where did you make it first, and where did you need it to appear?
Victor
•
Sep 21
The out-of-office part is not sth that I currently but rather thought about. It would go like this:
In Akiflow I create a day-range or normal (within a day) event called OOO
My sync system would pick it up and sync it (create) to the company calendar
Again, this is sth that I have in mind but will only be worth doing if I start managing multiple calendars.
If it’s of any help, most of the steps I do now manually fall in this scenario:
I am invited to an event through the company calendar
I go to Akiflow and add it there
What is a bit annoying is that sometimes I forget to do step 2 and might miss or be surprised by some events - since I mostly use Akiflow to manage my time.

Hi Victor, have you tried connecting your work calendar directly through Akiflow’s calendar integrations? Which calendar service does your company use, and what happens when you try to connect it? I want to understand whether the existing connection could solve this or whether your company blocks it.
Victor
•
Sep 22
Hi Tadej! It’s Outlook, so I know there is already an integration in place, but the company “blocks” it. I’ve requested permission to install the Akiflow plugin in Outlook and received a response that translates to sth like: “we need to evaluate it from a security perspective and it is not worth our effort for 1 user”
Tadej J.

I agree with Florian and Victor.
My company doesn't allow me to add the Akiflow MCP, but I could use automations to connect to Akiflow’s APIs.
I've tried to replace one of my automations with Aki, but now and then it does something different from what's in the prompt. An event can't trigger it, and I need to stress-test to adjust the prompt to get the parameters right.
With automations, I can do exactly what I need, when I need it, and with the right parameters at the right time.
Tadej J.
Team•
Sep 11
Hi Flavio, could you describe the automation you tried replacing with Aki: what triggers it, what should happen in Akiflow, and what Aki did differently?
A few times Aki doesn't find the tasks. Several times it creates a duplicate of the task with “Duplicate” in the task name.
I can't make Aki to create a task in a project section.
Tadej J.

Flavio

Sep 30
Tadej,
The Akiflow API and Webhooks will provide us with more flexibility and integration options. With APIs, users can create very specific and detailed workflows for each need, opening up possibilities for integrating with different tools.
Sometimes it's easier to manually create the automation than write a detailed essay to get what you need with AI still with the risk of hallucinations.
Tadej J.
Team•
Oct 1
Thanks, Flavio. That clarifies it. Fixing the current workflow would help, but you also want to build precise automations across your tools without relying on AI to interpret instructions each time. We’re including that distinction as we evaluate the needs that remain beyond MCP. We haven’t committed to an API or webhooks yet.

MCP does not equal API. as others have pointed out, MCP is not always possible. additionally, i dont want to have to use agents to to do normal repeated tasks. For example, when a task is imported from a todoist project i should be able to have it assigned to a matching aki project instead of just having it jammed into the inbox requiring me to do it manually, i could do that with a small script and remove a major friction point. and no, the “agent” doesn’t get it right, we need the API to have repeating and expected direct interaction.
this is starting to feel like akiflow is setting up a future where your agent actions will become a paid requirement and are removing alternative options, not great. its 2026, your app most likely already runs on API’s and has from the beginning, at this point just be honest about the reasons why. charge for api access even, just be reasonable but this is just silly.

I would be happier with that outcome if the embedded agents were more capable. Akiflow, for example, cant even look up a location from an address. Every other tool I use does that just fine.

Other agents or apps take 1 of two approaches on address, either they subagent a look up, OR they just put “Rusty Beagle Lewisville TX” and google maps does the rest.
Tadej J.

We’re actively exploring which needs a public API would address beyond what Akiflow MCP can support today, or could support as more apps offer their own MCP connections. Your example is useful because you want a fixed rule that runs automatically, without an AI agent interpreting it each time. That’s a distinction we need to consider as we explore this.
