Complete Google Mail linked task re-opens in same tab

Currently when I complete a task that was created by setting a star against an email in google, a new tab is opened for google mail. It would be ideal behaviour if I then go back and complete more tasks linked to google mail that it will direct me back to the same opened tab instead of opening new tabs.
