Expandable and Configurable Task Input Field

Hey Jeson, thanks for the recommendation and for pointing out the FOCUS mode!

That said, I’ve tried it out and unfortunately it doesn’t solve the core issue. The full-screen F mode feels like an overcorrection - it strips everything away and ends up being more distracting than helpful. It lacks key features like deadline selection and tags, and ironically feels more limiting than the default minimal task input.

Focus isn’t always about removing everything else - it’s about guiding the user’s attention. A good reference is the experience you get when you tap “Q” in Todoist or use the global shortcut in Akiflow itself (outside the app). You get a modal with a drop shadow behind it, and all relevant task properties (title, due date, project, labels) are instantly accessible. That’s the kind of expanded input I’m referring to - compact but complete, visually anchored, and user-friendly.

Right now, we have two extremes:

1.  A minimal input that truncates long inputs and hides essential fields.2.  A full-screen input that ironically removes even more functionality.

As a product designer and dev, my take is: keep the current minimal version as default for speed, but allow a configurable shortcut (like “Q”) to trigger a mid-weight modal using your existing edit task/event widget. Just add a backdrop, center it, and let users choose if they want that as their default. You could also give users control over what shortcuts trigger which mode (e.g., Minimal vs Expanded vs Focus), based on their workflow.

Hi Nathan! Depending on where you are adding it or how you are adding it. We can use the FOCUS mode 'F' shortcut to have a full screen where you can put more information on each tasks. try it out and let me know?
