MCP tools to start, stop and read a task timer
Give MCP ability to start, stop and read a task timer
Expose MCP tools to start, stop and read a task timer. Akiflow’s MCP can create, schedule and complete tasks, and create time slots, but has no tool to start, stop or read a task timer, so an AI assistant can’t record the time actually spent on a task.
Related requests already open on this board: “Timer Automatically Adjusts Task Duration”, “statistics” for estimated vs. actual time, and “Task timer that you can start for any task” (web). This request is about the MCP side of those: letting an assistant start and stop the timer on the user’s behalf.
What is wanted:
start_timer(task_id): start timing a task.
stop_timer(task_id): stop timing and return the duration in minutes.
get_timer(): return the task currently being timed and how long it has run.
Write the recorded time to the task’s actual time spent, so it shows in get_schedule and in statistics.
Why it matters: the customer uses AI to manage their schedule; what they need most is estimated vs. actual time, and right now they can only estimate.
Minimum viable version: start and stop at task level, one active timer at a time, and the duration written back to the task. No charts needed.
Not needed: automatic detection of what the user is working on. Timers start only when the user or an MCP call starts them.
