I’m a new user to Akiflow. Overall, I like the application and picked it after reviewing several options. I particularly like the emphasis on keyboard shortcut navigation as an integral part of the design which was probably my main reason for choosing the app.
However, the next major reason I want to use Akiflow is the task management integration feature (personally, I use Todoist as my task integration app). I like the way it pops up the tasks at the top of the calendar and how it allows drag and drop time blocking for the tasks.
Unfortunately, I am continually frustrated by the rest of the task to event interface. Akiflow sets up a separate task and event almost every time (not sure why it doesn’t sometimes). This double marking of the calendar is frustrating and counter intuitive. Plus it makes the event text hard to read since it splits the already narrow column in half.
If everything always synced correctly, then it would be less frustrating, but when changes are made to the schedule, it regularly lags or even does not properly sync the calendar “task” with the calendar “event” it coincides with. Thus, I must regularly manually move or resize both time blocks. This is especially annoying when I am moving it to a different week.
Then it further deletes the event block when the task is checked as done in Akiflow, but it is the event and not the task that is represented on my Google Calendar if I look at that elsewhere.
I’m sure there was a reason for these design decisions, but intuitively in my opinion, the task/calendar event should be a single calendar item/block. The little check box should be a part of this single task-event time block. Also allow the task-event to be colored, perhaps at an increased opacity to set them apart from the “regular” scheduled events.
Overall, I really want to like Akiflow, and I love the keyboard shortcuts. I don't want to change to a different app, but I’m having a hard time working through the task/event issues.
