Outlook: Behaviour on archived emails

When you add an email as a task to Akiflow, then archive the email and work in Akiflow. Unfortunately, after archiving the email, the link to Outlook doesn't work anymore.

    Outlook Email Sync

I am in my trial period for Akiflow. I have been a career long ToDoist User, and have become dependent on the integrations within ToDoist to keep track of my day. However, Todoist has been slow to integrate AI scheduling, and most importantly the ability to create a time slot and assign a myriad of tasks into that time slot when planning. It seemed like Akiflow might be the perfect tool to replace ToDoist.

The issue I am noticing with Akiflow however, is that the integration with Outlook is problematic. My workflow is:

    1. decide whether I can reply to the email in 2 minutes or less. If I can, respond and archive.

    2. If I can't I add it to Akiflow using the integration.

    3. Then, I archive the email so it doesn't clutter my inbox.

What I am finding is that in Akiflow, after archiving or sorting the email, the link in the task that was added to my Akiflow inbox is now broken and I can't easily reference that email when going to complete the task at a later time I have designated for email.

In Todoist, I would follow the same workflow, but when the mail was archived or moved to a different folder, the link in the app is dynamic and I am still able to easily find the email.

Is this a bug? Or just a quirk of your integration? Either way, I would love to see the sync of emails accurately maintain live links regardless of how the email is organized in my inbox.

Anyone have any insight into this?

Hi Wainman,Aaron P Due to limitations in Microsoft’s API, we can’t generate permanent links for emails in our add-in. Although we developed a workaround, the email ID changes when the message moves between folders, which breaks the link. Unfortunately, there’s no automated way to update these links since webhooks or similar tools are not supported.

We might find a solution about this in the future but for now we can keep this open as a feature request :)

Hi @Sven the issue comes from how Outlook generates and validates the message URL once the email is moved. Our current implementation follows Microsoft’s default behavior, which causes the link to break. That’s why the team categorized this as a feature request: we need to implement an alternative method of generating or preserving message identifiers to ensure the link remains valid no matter where the email is stored.
