Hey everyone, subtasks are now available in Akiflow.

You can now break a larger task into smaller steps, create subtasks directly inside a task, turn existing tasks into subtasks, and see parent/subtask context across your task list and calendar. Akiflow also tracks subtask progress and asks how you want to handle related subtasks when completing or deleting a parent task.

This is available on desktop and mobile. Update to the latest version of Akiflow if you don’t see it yet.

Thanks for all the feedback here, it helped shape this first version.

I haven’t been so excited about software update such as this in a long time!

Tajed, does this include integrations (e.g. clickup/ms-todo) or not yet? any plans to include those?

subtasks haven’t been activated for me yet sadly else I’d have tried to figure it out myself!

Integrations not yet, its a separate beast to build because of all the rules to follow with relationship within integrations, so please feel free to create a separate request here to track that, we already have it planned but no release date on sight.

          Fair enough! Thanks 🙏

Another quick Q: For any further improvements/suggestions on subtasks, where best to relay this feedback and how?

Feature only activated now for me..

For example, I can’t seem to re-order subtasks, and I’ll have more feedback once I revamp all my tasks.

Also doesn’t seem I can see the whole chain of subtasks and subtasks of subtasks in one view

Building on this, would want to also be able to independently schedule the subtask while tracking progress against the task as a whole. This would enable being to break down a project into smaller tasks and still track the larger task's completion. Combined with smart scheduling AI, this would be a game-changer feature to help ensure there's time for incremental progress without having to make hundreds of tasks

We just release a new version of Akiflow with checklists in the task description. Just type [] to add them :)

Stefania: is there a way we can do a one-click checklist?

Ax: Instead of "[]", you can use the icon selected in this screenshot to create a checklist. Let me know if that works for you :)

I don't think checklists in a task description meets all of the goal of subtasks -- having parent / child relationships begoalstween tasks and filters to show only parent or parent and child tasks would be great

Jillian: Agree with you. Checklists in a description doesn't support any timeblocking or task ordering which are provided by Akiflow.

This is the most important features to decide whether I use Akiflow or not, cuz I prefer to manage the task using projects. I need subtask, relationship between tasks or something to manage the projects. I really looking forward that features. When Akiflow has that feature, I will move to Akiflow.

I stumbled upon TickTick subtask system, which is pretty good and could be used as a benchmark :)

Just reporting back that I'm regurarly checking how Akiflow is doing. Sad to see still no subtasks. I briefly used TickTick but then reverted back to Sunsama which is the best choice for me. Been using Sunsama for a couple of years now. They recently released a feature where you can drag and drop a bunch of tasks to subtasks, it's a killer for me. 👍

Checklists within tasks is amazing. BUT, it feels like a different feature. Don't get me wrong, it's a feature I can't live without! But being able to have a hierarchy visually displayed in the inbox/today/etc views with tasks having sub-tasks would make Akiflow the BEST productivity app.
For me, being able to VISUALLY see a hierarchy in the inbox would be supremely helpful. I love the drag and drop functionality of tasks in Akiflow, and if I could just utilize sub-tasks in the same way it would be a game changer. When checklists are hidden within tasks, I forget about them, I don't properly allocate time for them, and they just end up a pain in the butt. They're GREAT when I use them for lists that are NOT tasks/to-do's… But using them as task lists breaks the main point of Akiflow in my opinion, since I no longer have visibility of all tasks I need to complete.
This is the ONLY feature holding me back from switching exclusively to Akiflow. Right now, I'm having to use Apple Notes in a clunky way with the Akiflow app and it's not ideal. I would literally pay an additional subscription JUST for the sub-task feature, it's that important. Being able to organize goals/objectives/etc as a task, then creating indented lists below that parent task to break down the steps I need to complete to get through that parent task, would be amazing.

This is the only thing keeping me from using Akiflow right now. I use subtasks extensively in Todoist and the way they sync over into Akiflow is pretty unusable. I'm going to have to use sunsama because their implementation is better. Any update on when this will be added?

Agreed-- if there were a way for Akiflow to recognize and distinguish subtasks when they are imported from other platforms, that would be fantastic, even if there isn't a fully-fledged hierarchy system

What's the situation with this feature? Unfortunately for me, this is a deal breaker and something that is making me consider going back to Todoist. I always use it to break down big tasks into smaller tasks and then just schedule a time session for each subtask.

Now, Todoist works for this, but I like Akiflow because it gives me a clear overview of my full calendar and an easy drag-and-drop task into calendar feature.

So, is this feature planned, and when are you planning to release it?
