Subtasks: show parent/child hierarchy in the project view

In the project view, subtasks currently all appear as individual tasks with no visible relationship to their parent task, which is a little confusing. It would be great to have them displayed with a hierarchical relationship (nested under their parent) so the project view reflects the subtask structure.

Subtasks are great for keeping organized, but it’s less helpful when I can’t view them in the hierarchy - would be better to have the option to just see the parent task with the sub-tasks toggle-able underneath it.

Names of tasks would make more sense in that context, eg if I’m using a short name like ‘download files’ as a subtask, it doesn’t make sense without the context from the parent task.

    Expand and collapse sub-tasks

Currently seeing all parent and child tasks on the same ‘level’ within all lists views (projects, days, etc.) and it would be great to be able to sort them so I can see easily which child task is related to which parent.

Example - I have two stakeholders to draft briefings for, each has a sub-task of ‘send draft for review’ but without putting it explicitly in the title (‘send Sam’s briefing draft for review’) I can’t easily tell which parent task it belongs to.

Would be awesome to have them as indented expand/collapse lists or to filter on just parent/child.

This is a big one for me as well. Makes it easier to turn tasks into min-projects in a project list. This ties to the show/hide subtasks in inbox.

    I couldn’t agree more.

Currently the way I am able to differentiate true project (with sub-tasks) from a regular one-off task is by setting it as a Goal.

So at the moment, a Goal status for me means, big project with sub-tasks.

I rarely have a one-off task that I set as a Goal, as they tend to be big/longer projects with stepping stones to reach them.

I thought of creating a “sub-task” tag or something similar to be able to easily distinguish a one-off task and a sub-task, but I’d rather avoid building a system that requires ongoing manual maintenance. Ideally, the distinction would exist naturally within Akiflow.

I also think these feature requests are closely related:

    https://product.akiflow.com/p/expand-and-collapse-sub-tasks

    https://product.akiflow.com/p/project-filter-on-tasks-select-all-none-some-projects-at

If this functionality were combined with Assign Events to Projects, it could create an incredibly intuitive and clutter-free workflow:

    https://product.akiflow.com/p/assign-events-to-projects

In my workflow, events often represent the larger projects themselves, while tasks and sub-tasks represent the actionable steps needed to move those projects forward. Connecting projects, events, and sub-tasks in a more structured way would significantly improve organization and reduce friction when planning and reviewing work.

Ability to put subtasks inside of the main task

Right now I don’t feel like subtasks are very useful. In my opinion, the benefit of a subtask is that I can combine multiple little tasks into one larger bucket. So they don’t clutter my task list. And sure maybe I can pull the one I’m working on today out onto my calendar or something, but by default I would expect that they live inside of the parent task graphically. But right now, they all live at the same level, so not only do they clutter my to do list just as much as before, but now there’s one extra one (the parent task), so it’s actually gotten worse.

This is something I’d really like to see too.
