Download and Set up

You can download the desktop app directly from here.

When you sign up in a Mac or Windows desktop browser, Akiflow starts downloading the desktop installer automatically while signup continues. This applies to email signup and signing up with Google, Microsoft, or Apple.

Once the download finishes:

1. Find the installer in your browser’s downloads or your Downloads folder.

2. Double-click it and follow the installation instructions.

3. Open the installed Akiflow app.

If the download does not start or you need another copy, choose Download again on the installation page, or use the download link above.

You can also choose Open Akiflow Web on the installation page to continue in your browser and install the desktop app later.

The desktop app provides a more powerful, seamless and efficient experience compared to the web browser. You can access shortcut-driven workflows that are only available on the desktop app, on top of the main features of Akiflow.

Open Akiflow links in the desktop app

You can open links to Akiflow tasks, events and time slots in the installed desktop app from a supported browser on macOS or Windows.

Turn on automatic opening

1. Open Akiflow in your web browser.

2. Go to Settings → App Settings → General → Akiflow.

3. Turn on Open Akiflow links in the desktop app.

This setting is off by default and applies only to the browser and device where you enable it. Repeat the setup in another browser if you want the same behavior there.

Once it's on, opening an Akiflow link shows a short page that hands the item over to the desktop app. If the app doesn't open, you're taken to the item on the web automatically. You can also choose Continue in the browser on that page.

If other Akiflow tabs are already open in that browser when you change this setting (in Settings or with Always open in the app), reload them to see the updated setting. Links open correctly either way.

Open a single item

When you open an Akiflow link in a browser where automatic opening is off, a prompt asks whether to open it in the app. Choose Open in app to open just that item. Select Always open in the app first if you also want to enable automatic opening in that browser.

If you close the prompt, it won't appear again in that browser. You can still turn on automatic opening in Settings at any time.

If the item does not open

Check that Akiflow Desktop is installed and up to date, and allow the browser's request to open the app if prompted. You can continue using the item on the web when the handoff does not succeed.

Turn off Open Akiflow links in the desktop app in web Settings to stop automatic opening. The automatic preference is not available in mobile or Linux browsers.

Menu Bar / Tray Menu

From the Menu Bar, you can take a quick glance at your ongoing and upcoming tasks, time slots (even tasks inside your time slots!) and events of the current day.

Command Bar

The Command Bar is the fastest way to create and edit tasks/events in Akiflow. Open it and instantly create, edit, or schedule tasks from anywhere on your laptop

Capture

Use the Capture feature to quickly save tasks, links, or ideas from any webpage.
When you activate it, Akiflow automatically creates a new task including the page title, link, and any selected text.

It’s the fastest way to turn something you’re reading or researching into an actionable task without interrupting your flow.

Notifications and Sounds

Akiflow sends notifications to help you stay on top of your schedule and never miss an important task or event. You can customize notification types, timing, and sounds to match your workflow. Choose whether you prefer subtle reminders or stronger alerts to keep you focused.

You can customize them by going to Settings → Notifications.

Calendar notifications: Go to Settings → Calendars and select an account. The bell beside each calendar controls reminders for calendar events only. Turn it off to mute event reminders while keeping the events visible. Task and Time Slot reminders follow their own settings in Settings → Notifications, even when locked to that calendar.

Works Offline

Work offline without worrying about your internet connection! All changes will sync automatically once you're back online.
